Does The Cocktail Glass Matter?

Does The Cocktail Glass Matter? - Sister.ly Drinkware

Glassware matters. Whether you're entertaining guests or just drinking alone, the right glass can transform a beverage into an experience. Sister.ly Drinkware founder Renee answers your burning questions about the best types of cocktail glasses for your at-home bar.

1.  How would you describe coupe glasses? What makes them unique?

coupe glasses

You do not often see the words sexy and glass in the same sentence, but coupe glasses have become synonymous with chic, glamor, and high society and are undeniably sexy. This cocktail glass has become all the rage in the last few years, and it’s easy to see why. From their stylish aesthetic to their smooth rounded bowl, it’s no wonder the coupe has made a triumphant resurgence.

Coupes became fashionable in France in the 1700s and were the champagne vessel of choice for many years. Today, coupe glasses have become popularized as the perfect glass for martinis and other classic cocktails that are served shaken or stirred without ice cubes. Coupe glasses are not just stylish and sleek; they are the perfect vessel for an array of cocktails and are a classy and sophisticated way to take your cocktail presentation to the next level.

2.  When searching for the perfect martini glass, what do you recommend? Are they just for martini's?

martini glasses

Next to the coupe, martini glasses are my favorite.  They are classy and elegant. Perfection is subjective; however, the perfect glass is the one that looks and feels good in your hand.

Martini glasses are just as much about how they look and feel as they are about their function. The shape is essential—a martini glass is usually tall and has a conical bowl with a stem that keeps your hand from warming up the drink. The shape also helps keep the drink cold and prevents ice cubes from melting too quickly.

One of the best things about martini glasses is their versatility - they can be used for so many other drinks besides martinis! They're great for whiskey sours, scotch on rocks, Manhattans, and even desserts!

3.  Why would someone buy single rocks glasses? What drinks pair well with the glass type and why?

rocks glass

Single rocks glasses are a great choice for someone who wants to enjoy their favorite cocktail in a classic glass. They're perfect for whiskey and scotch, but you can also use them for drinks like gin and tonic or vodka soda.

The shape of the single rocks glass is designed to keep the drink at the top of the glass, where you can enjoy it without having to reach into your beverage every time you take a sip. This makes it easy to savor the flavors and aromas of your drink.  The glass also makes it easy for you to see all the different layers of color in your drink, which is really fun!

Because this type of glass is so classic, it's perfect for any occasion—from casual nights at home with friends to special occasions when you want something polished and impressive!

4.  What is a double rocks glass and how does it differ from the single? Is it more versatile and why?
Double rocks glasses are essentially the same as single rocks glasses, but they're bigger. They're designed to hold more liquid, making them great for serving up a nice whiskey on the rocks. The more liquid in your glass, the more diluted it will be—so if you really like your drink strong and straight-up, you might want to stick with a single rocks glass. On the other hand, if you're looking for something a little more mellow, double rocks are probably the way to go.

Double rocks glasses are also great because they have a larger surface area than a single rocks glass so you are guaranteed to have more room for ice and other ingredients.

5.  What is a highball glass and what is a collins glass? How do they differ? What drinks are they good for?
A highball glass is a tall, cylindrical glass that's used for drinking cocktails that contain carbonation as well as specialty cocktails.  Its tall design is ideal for drinks with a high volume of ice and mixers. These glasses are great for serving drinks like gin and tonic, whiskey soda, or rum and coke.

A collins glass is also a tall, cylindrical glass that's used for serving specialty cocktails.  It is commonly used to serve sparkling cocktails, especially long drinks like the Tom Collins or John Collins.

The main difference between these two types of glasses is the width of their top rim. The highball glass's top rim is wider than the collins'—so if you want to serve a drink in one type of glass but not the other (for example), you could choose based on this difference.

6.  How would you describe Nick and Nora glasses?
Nick and Nora Glasses are some of the most elegant and sophisticated glasses you can buy. They're great for everyday use, but they're also perfect for a night out. I love how they're timeless, yet still have a little bit of edge to them.

I really feel like Nick and Nora Glasses are the "glass" version of my identity—they're classic, simple, and timeless, but also fun and cool!

7.  What makes tiki glasses popular? What drinks go well with them? How would you describe the style and vibe?
Tiki glasses are popular because they're fun! They're great for parties because they make it easy to serve up drinks that everyone can enjoy, and they're also a great way to serve the same drink in different styles.
fff
Tiki glasses are most commonly used for cocktails like Mai Tai's and Pina Coladas, but you can also use them for mocktails like fresh-pressed juices or smoothies. If you want to add a little flair to your presentation, try adding some berries or fruit slices to the bottom of your tiki glass before adding your drink.

Tiki glasses come in all sorts of different styles and sizes, so there's no one way to describe their vibe or style. They're just about celebrating life!  If you're looking for a more specific description of the style and vibe of tiki glasses, we think that they're like a combination of retro-chic and tropical paradise. It's kind of like going on vacation without leaving your house!

8.  Is there such a thing as the perfect shot glass? What other uses can they have other than for liquor? Do you find they are overlooked in barware?
There is no such thing as a perfect shot glass.
fhf
But, I do think there are better-shot glasses than others. For example, I think it's important to have a shot glass that allows you to easily get the liquor out without spilling it on yourself or the floor. The glasses should also be able to fit in your hand comfortably and help you keep your grip on the glass when you're trying to pour out your alcohol.
fjf
Other uses for shot glasses? Well, they can be used for any liquid that you want poured into them. They work great for water or soda, but they're also great for juice, other non-alcoholic beverages, and even desserts.
fjf
I do find that people tend to overlook barware—especially shot glasses—in favor of other types of barware like rocks glasses and martini glasses.

9.  Out of all of these types, is there one you find to be the best overall and why?
We love all of these drinkware types, but if we had to choose one, it would be the coupe glass. It's a classic that never goes out of style, and the design is just so elegant. It's a timeless shape that works with almost any drink. It's also the perfect size to showcase garnishes and flavors, so it's a great choice for both cocktails and mocktails. If you're looking for something that will feel at home in any setting—from a formal dinner party to a casual barbecue—this is the way to go.
